Kitchen & Bath Trends 2016

Image
Yesterday I attended the International Builder Show (IBS) and National Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) both taking place simultaneously during Design & Construction Week at the Las Vegas Convention Center , and let me tell you it’s HUGE. There are tens of thousands of people in the industry that attend. All the major brands you can think of are set up booths, it’s a once a year opportunity to see all the new design and home improvement products and also meet with the reps that work for these major brands and I was SO excited to be there. First here’s a peek at some emerging trends based on products and displays se...

It's form over function at K/BIS

BY ROBERT P. MADER OF CONTRACTOR'S STAFF You're not just washing your hands or a dish, you're living a lifestyle and plumbing manufacturers are happy to help. When the home builders met in Orlando, Fla., in January, their show was all about function (April, pg. 39) . The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show , on the contrary, is all about pizzazz. High-tech plumbing Kohler has entered the programmable shower market with its DTV custom showering system . Featuring the DTV Digital Interface and DTV Digital Shower Valve , the product offers customized shower experiences with multiple showerheads, hand showers and body sprays. The DTV's pre- set hydrotherapy experiences include up, down and wave massage, as well as temperature therapy that can ...

Bathroom upgrade that's almost as fast as a quick shower

It is not uncommon to purchase a home and get a bathroom that is a horror: avocado green tub , pink wall tile or maybe an old, white sink. The rest of the house may have charm and character, but you can't imagine living with this outdated bathroom. However, renovating a bathroom can be costly, especially if you decide to gut the room and start over. While some bathrooms do require a total renovation, most don't require that at all. Most have "good bones" and can be renovated effectively without spending a small fortune, said Dimitris Nacopoulos, owner of Bath Planet of Chicagoland, based in Streamwood. One option to consider is the use of an acrylic bath and wall system, also known as a bath liner. If you haven't investigated one in awhile, look again. They have come a long way in terms of looks and design and they are made nearby in Palatine, employing local workers . Many Bath Planet products install right over the existing ugly wall t...
