Bath Shower Ha Na

Our new shower – for the duration of this trip So the Mustache family is now happily living in the little vacation suite I built for us with the indispensable help of my friend and host Johnny Aloha . There are still some finishing touches to add (including paint), but for the most part everything works now. The nicest part of this place is the shower, which you can see there in the picture on the left. Ooh, ahh.. looks cozy, doesn’t it? Well I like it, anyway, and I wanted to build something that would serve as a centerpiece to this future rental unit that would anchor it in the luxury market and thus allow it to earn higher rents forever . The cool part is, it didn’t really cost much to build. Those floor-to- ceiling travertine tiles , dark slate, river rock floor stones , and even the handle and valve set were all found on Craigslist at a deep discount. The scariest moments in horror are often the most intimate - this is why knives are a far nastier, button-pushing instrument of death than the gun. As the Joker famously put it in The Dark Knight, “You can savour all those little emotions...” Intimacy may be the key to understanding why, in horror films, so many dreadful things tend to happen in bathrooms. The bathroom is often where we go to be by ourselves - either to answer the call of nature, brush our teeth, or simply relax in the bath after a hectic day at work. Equally, the water closet also sees us at our most vulnerable: naked, or at least with our trousers down, and often with nothing more to defend ourselves with than a mobile phone or a copy of TV Quick. Is there a more overused trope in horror cinema than the deadly shower scene ?  It's become so predictable, that when a young woman takes a bath or shower in a slasher film, you instantly know she's a goner.  We can blame Psycho for the popularity of the trend in that there have been many, many imitators since. But it isn't limited to slasher films.  If it falls within the horror/thriller genres and it's a B-movie, you stand a pretty good chance of finding a scene where a lady gets killed in a shower or bath.  That's just the way it is. I'll leave it to the armchair sociologists to figure out why.  I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that shower is a place where we're extremely vulnerable.  Also, it's a damn good way for a B-movie to sneak in its gratuitous nudity.
