Decorating Ideas to Make a Glass Shower Door More Private | Home Guides

Image
If many people share a bathroom, making the shower more private is a well-received idea. Glass shower doors are a common design element in many modern bathrooms. The clear doors make the bathroom appear larger, but offer little to no privacy. If it's necessary that two or three people share the bathroom some of the time, this creates a problem. Add some design elements to your bathroom to add privacy to the overexposing glass. Shower Curtain Hang a shower curtain for privacy. It requires minimal effort and allows you to enhance the decor of your bathroom with color and design. Place a spring rod between the shower walls on the inside of the clear shower door . Attach the curtain to the rod with round rings or curtain clips. When you open your shower door, push the curtain to one side to enter the space. If you love the look of the clear glass, the curtain is easily taken down when entertaining guests or when your privacy needs change. Window Clings Add decals or clings to...

In the battle over bathroom privacy, transgender people’s needs matter more.

Image
Does the potential presence of trans people make bathrooms any less private? RakicN/Thinkstock In the ongoing national debate over which public bathrooms transgender people should be able to use, both sides have asserted that individual privacy is at stake.  Which position is correct? Those who would bar transgender individuals from using the restroom that corresponds with their gender identity and outward gender expression have argued that sharing a restroom with a transgender person violates an expectation of privacy. Advertisement For example, in the lawsuit filed Monday defending North Carolina ’s transgender bathroom ban , Gov. Pat McCrory argues that HB2 represents a “ common sense privacy policy .” Indeed, the full name of HB2 is the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act. Similarly, in Washington state, a group called Just Want Privacy is gathering support for an initiative that would repeal existing legal protections for transgender individuals . According to t...

House Tour: A Clever Kids' Bedroom & Bathroom Makeover

Names: Finley (4-years-old) and Jackson (5 1/2 years old) Location: Seattle, Washington Room sizes: Bathroom - 47 square feet; Finley's Room - 100 square feet; Jackson's Room -130 square feet The adorable Finley and Jackson of Finley and Jackson's "Modern Shabby-Chic" Bedrooms & Playrooms are back with new and improved big kid bedrooms and bathroom. Their mom, Emily, had been thinking about adding a bathroom to the upper level of their home for years. The house—Emily and Kai's Thoughtful and Stunning Seattle Home —came with only 1.5 bathrooms when they purchased it six years ago, and the only shower/bathtub was in the master bathroom. Now that the kids are getting older (Finley is almost 4 years old and Jackson is 5 ½) and out of diapers, it's clear that they need their own bathroom. In order to add it, both bedrooms needed a new floor plan—this is what Emily came up with! Emily and Kai's home is a little over 1600 square feet, and there is...

Lois Frankel's mayoral bathroom takes a hit in Adam Hasner attack ad

The battle between congressional candidates Lois Frankel and Adam Hasner has fallen into the toilet. Democrat Frankel and Republican Hasner are competing in the South Florida Congressional 22 district that is currently home to U.S. Rep. Allen West who has switched districts. In Hasner’s ad "Gotta Go" the incensed female narrator says: "That Lois Frankel is something. She gave herself a 40 percent pay raise . Charged us for a police helicopter ride to go to a dinner party. But the worst part? Frankel spent over $13,000 in taxpayer money on a marble shower in a private bathroom with her own toilet. What a waste. All that money right down the drain for her own personal use," says the narrator, as a close-up of her hand is shown flushing a white toilet. Now the screen reveals that our narrator is sitting on a toilet next to a roll of toilet paper and a white shower curtain : "When you gotta go, you gotta go, but that’s just ridiculous." We’ve already ch...

TRADE SECRETS: THE BATH; A Designer Dips Into the Big Boxes

Want a bathroom that looks like a sauna? Try the tongue-and- groove cedar boards , $19.97 for 15 square feet. You could use the AstroTurf mats ($10) as bathmats. In lieu of solid doors, wood and glass French doors in a variety of sizes ( 30 inches wide by 78 inches tall , $139 apiece) would add light to the classic no-window New York bathroom. Install a sheer curtain for privacy. Next stop: Ikea. The drive to the store in Elizabeth, N.J., was an easy one; on Saturdays and Sundays, there's a free round- trip shuttle bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal at Eighth Avenue and 42nd Street (information: 800 BUS-IKEA or 800-287-4532). Ikea offers highly useful classics and interesting new designs. More than anything, this is the place to buy storage furniture . The Atran cabinets -- plain, metal rectangles with locks -- would make excellent medicine cabinets . In colors or shiny chrome, they are $24.95 each. The painted wooden Lack shelf ( 43 inches long , $12.95) is thick and...
