Chantel C Apartment, Les Arcs 1800

This ski in and ski out apartment is situated in the hamlet of Chantel just above Les Arc 1800 opposite the lift making it simple for the keen as well as the casual skier/snowboarder to maximise their time on the mountain.

The interior is traditionally alpine with wood furnishings and uses cosy warm fabrics. The open plan living area has plenty of light provided by large floor to ceiling French windows that lead onto a spacious balcony with great views out over resort - this is a great spot to enjoy a vin chaud after a day on the slopes.

Inside, there is a large comfortable L-shaped sofa where you can rest weary limbs at the end of the day and switch off with a DVD or listen to your favourite tunes on the CD player. The dining table comfortably sleeps 6.

The fully equipped kitchenette includes a full-sized oven which is rare in the majority of ski apartments, dishwasher so you don't have to waste any of your precious holiday time washing up, hob and fridge-freezer.

There is one large family bathroom with full-sized bath with over-head shower.

The residence within which the apartment is based also includes a swimming pool where you can enjoy a couple of lengths after a day on the slopes or on a bad weather day.

The apartment sleeps up to 6 in 2 double/twin rooms and a double sofa bed in the living room.

Dining

This property is let on a self-catering basis, however, this doesn’t mean you need to cook for yourself! There are a number of private chefs you can book who can prepare your meals for the full week or the odd night. Alternatively, you could opt for a food delivery service.

Generally, you’re best off choosing somewhere close for ease of access, & less far to carry your kit, easier to make changes, and quicker to return and pay at the end. Nevertheless, many suppliers will deliver and some snow-front rental stores offer ski lockers, so it’s worth checking out all the options.

When staying here, you’ll need to book your own ski or snowboard lessons. Tuition is strongly recommended for complete beginners and is always a good idea whatever your level to perfect your technique. Group lessons are a great way for children to learn with their peers whilst giving you some free time on the slopes. Groups are also a generally cheaper option for adults, however, with a private instructor you’ll have undivided attention and be able to progress at your own pace.

When staying here, you’ll need to book your own Guides & Tours, which are a great way to discover Les Arcs whilst doing a number of fun activities. During the winter, if you are keen to go off-piste, booking a High Mountain Guide is strongly recommended. Not only do they know the best local spots, these highly trained and experienced individuals are very familiar with the surroundings and can provide loads of insights you won’t get by yourself, as well as helping to ensure your safety.

Towns Nearby

The closest town to Les Arcs is Bourg Saint Maurice. This is easily accessed via the funiculaire that runs everyday during the Winter and Summer seasons. There is a friendly local community and a few large supermarkets. There is also a swimming pool, train station, cinema and various bars and restaurants. It's lively throughout the year and there are some lovely local festivals and a Saturday market. To get to the funiculaire you can take the free bus (navette) to Les Arcs 1600.

Restaurants Nearby

There are several decent restaurants in 1800 (most bars also do food and Bar King Mad is very good). Le Chic Mama next to the pharmacy in Charvet is of a very high quality, Savoyard food with sophisticated twist. Le Parenthèse in Les Villards is a wonderful new addition to the restaurant scene and doesn't serve Savoyard food. If you have kids and just want to feed them good food quickly, there are 2 tex mex restaurants in 1800: Le Benji's in Villards and The Mountain café in Charvet. There are also 2 asiatic restaurants, if you want something a little different to cheese, meat and potatoes. There is Killucru sushi bar in the Quiksilver shop on the Villards main street and just opposite there is the Nouidle, both serve excellent quality dishes and do take away, but you will have to fork out your wallet for the sushi because fresh fish does not come cheap!

Sights Nearby

Mont Blanc is visible from all of the Les Arcs villages but the view of Europe's highest mountain is viewed best from 1800 from the square in Haute Villards. However, there is a more spectacular sight at the top of the Aiguille Rouge, the highest point of the resort. To access this breathtaking view you can take the Transarc bubble to 2000 and walk/cycle/ski to the Varet bubble. You take the Varet and then the Aiguille Rouge gondola (approx 45mins journey time in total depending on your level). You can also take the free navette bus from various stops around the resort to Les Arcs 2000 and walk to the Varet bubble from here. At the top of the Aiguille Rouge you will see a 360° view of the Alps, it is truly spectacular.

Things to Do Nearby

In the winter there is a vast skiing/snowboarding area that links up with La Plagne to create the Paradiski area, one of the largest in the world. There is freeskiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, dog sledding, sledging, skidooing and ice caves! In the summer there are lots of activities as well; swimming; hiking; mountain biking; cycling; horse riding; golfing etc. You will not be bored!

There are 2 courses, both located in 1800. The Chantel 18 hole course and the Beauchet 9 hole course. They are walking distance in 1800 and can be reached by the free bus or chairlift from any other part of the resort.

Lifts/Pistes Nearby

Les Arcs 1800 is surrounded by some of the best skiing in the world. The closest lifts to the Charvet village are the Vagère and the newly installed lift Dahu. The closest lifts to Villards village are the Villards bubble which takes you to the top of the beginner slope/toboggan run and the Transarc bubble which takes you to 2000. From here you have easy access to anywhere on the mountain. If you take the Varet bubble to the Aiguille Rouge you'll arrive at the top of the longest run in Europe. Two places where you will find some of the best off piste in Europe, are the Aiguille Rouge and the Grand Col and they are easily accessible from the top of the Transarc. You should always take an experienced guide or instructor with you to avoid any accidents. You can also ski to the Vanoise express and head over to La Plagne for the Paradiski experience. The ski area is predominantly blues and reds with more black runs in 2000. If you're staying in the Aiguille Rouge appartments or around that area close to the Mercure hotel, you can easily hit the pistes by taking the unfrequented Charmetogger situated on your doorstep.

Nightlife Nearby

Because 1800 is the busiest of the villages there is more of a selection of nightlife to choose from. There are a couple of English bars in the square in Haute Villards, The Red Hot Saloon and Bar King Mad. They both offer live music and a fun, funky atmosphere. Lots of the British locals are seen having a tipple at Bar King Mad. Both of these bars have excellent sunny terraces. In Charvet the best bar is definitely Chez Boubous. A local's favourite spot for cocktails, sports, DJs and a brilliant atmosphere. There are also 3 different "clubs". There is the J.O. a club that offers live music every night, Le 73 which is an underground bar with free entry and reasonably priced drinks and there is Le Carrè in Les Villards. Le Carré has undergone a recent facelift and is looking at lot more respectable, unfortunately the drinks and door entry charge reflect this.
