Milk bath maternity photo shoots increase in popularity in Australia and the US

It’s as relaxing as it is beautiful.

Mothers-to-be are taking the weight off their feet with calming milk baths, capturing the moment as part of a stunning maternity shoot.

Sydney photographer Wendy Atkins, from Chapter One Photography, told Daily Mail Australia milk baths were perfect for women in their last weeks of pregnancy.

‘What attracts a lot of my clients who are a bit shy or don’t like posing is you don’t have to do that in a milk bath,’ Ms Atkins said.

‘It’s easy for everyone to just look gorgeous.

‘Not every client is a model shape and a milk bath helps them feel more comfortable.

‘It focuses on the lovely face and beautiful round stomach, I set mine off with flowers as well, and it gives that natural and pure feel that is really pretty.’

Unlike a regular maternity shoot where women must pose for the camera, the milk baths simply allow pregnant women to unwind.

Essential oils are added to the milky water, which is set to the perfect temperature.

Ms Atkins said she had been doing milk baths shoots for the past eight months, but they were still relatively unknown in Australia.

‘A lot of these trends come from America, and I still think it’s quite niche there as well,’ she said.

‘Probably because you need to have a very specialised space for it.

‘Most photography studios don’t have a full-size bath, but I am lucky to have that space.

‘The white [of the milk] gives a very pure and clean look, and when you’re talking about new life coming in to the world, pure and natural is what you’re thinking about.’

Ms Atkins said the shoot made for a beautiful wall portrait and she did different flower themes for the bath.

The trend is also rising in popularity on social media where mothers are sharing their beautiful milk bath photos under the hashtag #milkbath.

The photos show women immersed in the water either nude or in lace maternity drapes, beautiful flowers scattered in the water.

Among the photographers taking on the trend is Kasey from Kamikay Photography in Washington.

Her photos show mothers-to-be wrapped in tulle and wearing flower crown as they relax in milk baths filled with flowers.
