Discover Talgarth
The small market town of Talgarth is situated just 2 miles away from Berth Fedw. The area is rich with history and there has been a settlement on this site for at least 5000 years - the 13th century Peel Tower and 14th century Parish church are well worth a visit. Take a stroll just outside of the town centre and you'll find ancient woodland along the banks of the River Ennig. There are a series of waterfalls within the wood, the largest being Pwll-y-wrach or 'Witches Pool'. Local legend suggests that witches were ducked in this pool in medieval times. The woodland has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its special habitat values and the existence of some quite rare plants including the Lesser butterfly-orchid. The area is also home to a thriving colony of rare bats and dormice.
On a more practical note, Talgarth has a small supermarket, local chemist and an exceptionally good local butcher - many visitors order meat to take home at the end of their stay. There are also several good pubs and restaurants in the area.
