Leigh is a picturesque, unspoilt Kent community with a large village green, 13th century parish church, a popular primary school and a vibrant community spirit. The village is set on the edge of the Surrey Hills and the High Weald area of outstanding natural beauty.
Leigh is a thriving and traditional rural village, where you can pass the time of day with the owners of the combined Post Office and general stores on the High street or meet with other regulars at the pub; The Fleur De Lis, which is found in the centre of the village. The Fleur De Lis has a courtyard for al fresco dining and brings the community together with regular curry and quiz nights or hog roasts in the summer. A second pub, The Plough is on the eastern edge of Leigh.
Well attended clubs include badminton, bowls, Brownies and Scouts, there's a youth forum and a WI. Leigh primary school is next to the village green and caters for children aged 4-11.
Tucked beside the River Medway, Tonbridge provides a busier town centre with more shopping outlets and leisure opportunities than rural Leigh, and it is about four and a half miles away, or five minutes by train, so easily accessible from home.
Idyllic manor houses and an exemplary castle sit in an ancient landscape with woodland and pastures, traditional villages and hop farms. Tonbridge prides itself with some intriguing links with Jane Austen, and being home to Kent's best example of a motte-and-bailey gatehouse with its 11th century castle, where audio tours and interactive exhibits help bring history to life.
There are plenty of places to eat out whatever tastes you may crave with chains including a Pizza Express and a number of different independent eateries such as The Ivy House, a beamed 16th century inn and the Pepper Lounge Indian takeaway.
Haysden Country Park, to the west of town is a great location for a family day out. With two lakes and a stretch of the River Medway running through it, the park is a popular venue for water sports and a relaxing setting for a variety of leisure activities.
What was once a simple Kentish oast house, in use until 1966, became the Oast Theatre in 1974 and home to one of the most prolific theatre and arts clubs in the country with many major public productions a year.
Excellent transport connections serve the area so it is easy to get around, whether you are commuting for work or filling your leisure time.
Leigh has its own train station, just a few minutes from 1811 with regular services to Tonbridge in five minutes and London Bridge in just over an hour. The estate is well placed for travel by road with the A21 Tonbridge bypass just four miles away providing access to the M25 or south Towards Royal Tunbridge Wells, Brighton, and Hastings. There are regular buses from Leigh to Tonbridge and further afield.
Tonbridge has everything to meet your daily needs but when you want a bigger shopping experience or a night out at the cinema or theatre, the regional towns of Royal Tunbridge Wells, (8.3 miles) or Sevenoaks (6 miles), are easily accessible from 1811. London boasts world-class facilities for both shopping and leisure and its not far from home. London City Airport is an hours drive from 1811 with domestic flights and destinations across Europe plus flights to New York.
Tonbridge is home to many excellent state, public and grammar schools including the prestigious Tonbridge School, a boarding establishment for boys which shares some of its facilities, including the sports centre and theatre with the local community. The selective Tonbridge Grammar School for girls 11 to 18.
For further education West Kent College has campuses at Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge Wells offering apprenticeship and degree courses. Good universities are found in South London and at Canterbury running full and part-time undergraduate and post-graduate courses.
