Washbasin Plugs - Push Type - How to Adjust or Remove

Okay, done it.

If anyone else needs to know, there are two types (at least).

The better type unscrews which reveals a slot headed screw to remove the piston assembly - mine isn't this type.

The other type requires you to grasp hold of the plug when open and pull upwards really hard. Harder than you would normally be preapred to do for fear of breaking it - mine is this type.

I found out when trying to remove Mr Bodge Its work I indvertantly grabbed hold of the plug whilst pushing up from underneath. The assembly didn't budge an inch thanks to Mr Bodge Its silcone but the plug came off in my hand.

And yes you've guessed it, the plug was full of rotting hair and soap from my 14 yo daughter - lovely.

Don't be so quick to bash the plumber.

Fair enough but whenever we have had plumbers do bathrooms they take the parts out of the box (showers, taps, mixers etc) to do some initial fitting and measuring. Understandable enough but they never put them back neatly in the box but leave them spread wherever they left them. It's a wonder they find any of the fittings.

And don't bother asking for the manual and paperwork for the £250 shower mixer when they have finished - "err, threw it away mate, didn't think you would want it"

Cheers,

Nigel
