Ive always had an issue, as long as I can remember, with my skin turning slightly pink after showering or bathing. Early on I assumed it was from the hot water; but later concluded it was from the chlorine in the water. I figured it out quite obviously as Id get the pink skin from using a public pool or hot tub. Another strange thing was that I was getting pounding headaches after taking epsom salt baths and I thought it was from the magnesium sulfate as Im intolerant to sulfates, sulfites, nitrites etc. But I'd get a headache after every long shower or bath.

back in 2004 Id purchased a heavy duty water filter by 'MultipPure'. its installed at the kitchen sink and I dont drink water from any other faucet in our house but....

just the other day after taking a longer than normal shower, I turned not just pink but beet red and my face actually burned. It burned even more after applying my lavendar lotion. At first I was thinking the warm water was just aggravating a possible herpes occurrance coming on, but then my husband said he'd just read that our city was having to purchase water from the Tualatin river watershed and that theyd be using addtl chemicals to treat the water!!!

so my husband contacted our 'multi pure' saleslady who gave us info on the known "acceptible levels" of chemicals found in water in our city!!!! Needless to say we purchased a filter for the shower head, to remove the chlorine and other chemicals.

Unfortunalty its attached only to the shower so I can no longer take baths; but it sure does work on the shower head to alleviate the red burning skin issue from all those horrible chemicals thats allowed to stay in our water.

I am NOT an advocate for 'multi pure', in any way, but I DO highly recommend their water filters.

Thanks sweetpeaisme. I think they "let" too many things go in our water systems.

I just went through a scare at our home as an 18 wheeler highjacked and all his diesel fuel went in our water system. I thought I was taking a shower in ant spray. Luckily our kitchen faucet has a filter. I learned a lot on that emergency as did our whole town.

going to check out this for my shower. Thanks again.

I just ordered a filter for our shower yesterday, so we are on the same page! Trying to find a good one was a little overwhelming. I ended up ordering a Berkey shower filter. It says it filters out some metals - I am hoping it will take out some of the uranium in our water. I plan on having it tested after I install it. I will look into the multi pure shower head filter too. Do you know if it filters out metals? We have well water and I also want to filter out bacteria.

As for your bath, I read this article on ways to take chlorine/metals out of bath water. I have to use bentonite clay with every bath. The lady who writes the blog recommends a vitamin c shower head filter.

Also, another somewhat related issue we had was with our Reverse Osmosis drinking water. When I had it tested it was 3x higher in lead than our regular tap water. Come to find out, it was the faucet fixture adding lead to the water. The faucet was installed in 2009 - you would think all faucets would be lead free. So we had to get a new one and I had it retested and no more lead. I could become obsessed with testing my water!

oh thats just great(not)-about the lead getting in the water from the faucet/fixtures.Im already dealing with heavy metals of mercury, lead, and aluminum.my Multi pure kitchen sink water filter does filter out just about all of the heavy metals, voc's, pesticides, chlorine, etc. But I did find out that it does NOT filter out bacteria. My multi pure consultant wanted to sell me a new one but I cannot afford it right now.

The tap water here turns everything pink over time - I mean like tile grout, bath sealant, even the shower pan. I know we have very hard water here and tap water needs to be filtered before drinking (there's a higher incidence of kidney stones here) but I hadn't though much about showering in it or what else might be added. Hmmmm. Good pause for thought.

I think you're on to something. I also have sulfate sensitivity and think it was from too much chlorine. We have less than desirable water and have a filter, chlorinator/dechlorinator and a water softener on our well. I'm the only one in my house that drank a lot of tap water and our chlorinator/dechlrinator messed up and was not removing enough of the chlorine out of the water. I have cherry angiomas and thought they may have originated because of this. Environmental factors can certainly affect our health in a negative way.

GH- you have chlorine in your well water? That means there's issues with your well. Well water rarely has high levels of chlorine unless there is a leak of it somewhere.

Well water is fine, the equipment attached to the well was the problem.

Here's another water filter to think about (for drinking water). I just wonder why it's in a plastic container. /go2.thetruthaboutcancer.com/water/Lyme Forum moderator

This has been on mind lately as well...I've noticed I feel different in some places after drinking the water(sometimes better).

It wouldn't shock me at all if one day it was recommended for all homes to have added water filtration to pull out the extra chemicals and pollutants.

I personally have a problem with too much lead in our water system.

It is definitely quite scary. We have what the EPA considers safe levels of uranium in our community well water which is managed by a water company. However, our entire family is testing high in uranium. Clearly, these "safe" levels build up in our bodies over time. Very frustrating because there really isn't much guidance on uranium and how to get it out of our bodies. Apparently it is cleared quickly from the blood and settles in bones/tissues. We also have some radon & lead. Reverse Osmosis does remove almost all metals but also removes some of the good minerals we need in water. We were actually drinking RO water for the 6 of 7 years we lived here, which means the uranium must be from showering/bathing. Although I found some government sites saying the uranium particle is too big to be absorbed through the skin. One more reason I'm such a skeptic.

My husband installed our Berkey shower filter last night and I'm going to order a water test for it this week. It is a KDF filter that is supposed to filter out chlorine, some bacteria, and some metals (like lead, mercury). It has not been tested for uranium. I will update on the test results in case anyone is interested.
