Turn my tiny bathroom into a spa--with a new bathtub. - remodel

My existing claw foot tub doesn 't fill deep enough. I would like to replace it with a deep soaking tub , of course for the best value possible. Give me your ideas please. The existing claw foot tub came with the house and has the faucet drilled in, and the over flow underneath that, so it doesn't really fill up. This makes bathing in it a cold, uncomfortable experience. I think--and the plumber agrees with me--that the easiest way to fix this is replace the tub with something deeper. First question: How deep should I be looking for? Ideally, it's deep enough that I can easily put my shoulders in the water and keep them there, but I don't have to. I don't want to drown in the tub, but too much depth is better than too little, since I don't HAVE to fill up the tub. I'm 5'2", my partner is 5'10". Second question: Are there keywords I should be looking for? I've tried "soaking" tub, but that doesn't really yield interestin...

This Flatiron studio comes with a sleeping loft, but it'll cost you

Sleeping lofts aren ’t for everyone. Neither are $970,000 price tags (especially for studio apartments!). But if you don’t mind the former and can swing the latter, you might want to check out this 11th-floor unit at 254 Park Avenue South in the Flatiron District. The apartment measures just 506 square feet, but the 12- foot ceilings make the space seem larger than it actually is. The main living area has dark- hued oak flooring , an exposed brick wall and lights that are recessed into a beam running across the room. When you first enter the apartment, there’s an area that, as the place is currently staged, serves as a desk nook. Across from that is a small, retractable dining table pushed against the wall. Next is a living area, currently set up with a couch, coffee table, and TV. A brick divider partitions the main room, and is currently augmented by a striking bookcase/shelving unit. Oddly, the area on the other side of the divider currently has a bed in it, and there are no p...

Inside the Evolving Hotel Bathroom

Image
Drew Shepard, senior director of consumer insights for Marriott Hotels , spends copious amounts of time listening to travelers: in 2010 and 2011 combined he interviewed more than 7,000 hotel guests in person or through surveys to inform the renovations now underway at Marriott. “The bathroom is a really important signal for a bunch of things,” he said. “You hope it’s a little aspirational, a little better than what you have at home. A little fun.” And it’s the little things, he said, that add up, which is why Marriott is not only renovating but also investing in things like thicker towels and a new amenity brand (from a Thai company called Thann ). It’s also considering — attention, fellow longhaired travelers — more powerful hair dryers . An internal study of more than 6,000 guests last year found that seven in 10 women use a hair dryer when at a Marriott and, when asked, everybody requested higher wattage . When it comes to bathroom light wattage , TrustYou said it’s not something ...

Colour combination for bathroom floor and wall tiles

Image
Choosing right colour combination for bathroom can be a bit tricky and challenging as it is very different from the other rooms of the house. As you know the colour of the room depend mostly on the purpose of the room and hence we use different color combination for different room like bedroom, living room, kitchen and the washroom. Usually we don’t think too much about the right color combination for bathroom. We usually go by white ceiling and a fancy looking wall tiles, but trust me that’s not the best thing to do. Colour combination for bathroom tiles, floor, ceiling etc must be picked carefully and that’s what I am going to talk about in this post. The bathroom is the place where you go to clean yourself, to drain out all the worries and tensions that you were having the day long, so the decor of the room is very essential. Right colour combination of the bathroom will help you make it look good. The interior contractor can also help you with multiple colour option that you can c...
