12+ Ways to Reuse and Repurpose Shower Curtain Hooks

Repurpose Shower Curtain Hooks" width="499" height="238" />How many of you just toss those old metal and plastic shower curtain hooks and rings away? How many of you just toss them into a drawer and forget about them? Well, I’m here today to give you some creative ideas on how you can reuse and repurpose those shower curtain hooks & rings to help you get more organized around the house or to come up with some crafty home decor ideas. Let’s go!

1. Hook together several of the rings to form a chain. Use that chain to hang-up outdoor hanging plants, wind chimes, wind socks, crystal dangling sun-catchers, etc. When using them outdoor, I prefer to use the plastic rings, because they won’t rust like metal rings.

2. Looking to hang up outdoor solar lights and solar lanterns for a party? If you want them to hang lower, you can form a chain (like above) and hang them from a Shepherd’s Hook, clothesline or plant hook.

3. If you have bird feeders that you want to hang down lower from a tree or hanging hook, connect 4-5 hooks together to make a chain. I prefer using neutral colored hooks or green hooks to blend in with the tree branches. Hang your bird feeder from the end of the hook. By having them hang a little lower, they’ll be easier for you to refill with birdseed later on.

4. Attach several plastic shower curtain hooks to a clothing hanger to get your accessories organized. You can hang up your tank tops, tights, pantyhose, belts, scarves, bras, etc. Plus, by hanging your accessories on the hanger like this…you’ll save on closet and drawer space!

5. Do you find hubby’s belts, neckties and scarves lying on the floor in the closet? Hang them up using the method described above to get them organized and to save space! Plus, neckties that are hung-up and not thrown in a drawer will be wrinkle-free when he needs them!

6. Need curtain tie-backs? You can decorate your curtain rings with beautiful charms, silk flowers and other items. Slide them up over the curtain or drapery panel and you’ve got yourself some custom-made curtain tie-backs!

7. Little girls love jewelry, so give them a few plastic rings to wear as colorful bangle bracelets! If they’re a little older & want to get crafty, let them glue some silk flowers onto the top of each bangle for some additional fun!

8. Love the bangle bracelet idea? Get crafty and decorate those plastic or metal rings to turn them into beautiful napkin rings for your dinning room table.

9. Looking for a better way to store those small accent (throw) rugs? Tightly roll each rug up and then secure the rolled rug with a round shower curtain hook. This will keep the rug from unrolling and you can easily store them on a shelf, on the floor of a closet or underneath a bed.

10. Do you line-dry your clothes during the warmer months of the year? If so, attach several plastic rings do your clothesline. When you need to hang bras, tank tops, pantyhose, tights and other delicate items out to dry, hang them through the hook. By doing this, you’ll get no creases on the garment from using a clothespin and you won’t risk snagging up your delicate fabric.

11. Need to get things organized in the garage, basement, attic and/or workshop? My husband uses the old shower curtain hooks to organize his extension cords, jumper cables, holiday light strings and other items. By feeding the items through the hooks, they’re easier for him to hang up or to keep the sorted items together.

12. Got a hunter or outdoorsman in the family? My sister-in-law mates together all of my brother’s thick hunting (wool) socks with the plastic shower curtain rings. She can easily pack them away in a bin for next season and keep them mated together.

Bonus 13. If you have plastic shower curtain rings that you no longer need, let the kids use them in the swimming pool as diving rings! Some of them are just heavy enough to float to the bottom of the shallow end of the pool that they can dive for! Others will be too light and will float. You’ll have to test it out to see if your’s will work!
